Beginning with the Intel 1800 chipset, there are two main chips of the chipset. These are called the Northbridge and the Southbridge.
North Bridge and South Bridge
in Intel mother board the mother board and all the chips also from Intel but in chipset motherboard the only chips are form Intel so this chipset is chepest in compair to orignal Intel mother board.so there is an opportunity that in chipset some chips are not from Intel so be carefull at the time of purchasing new computer from market.
An Intel chipset driver is a set of chips that provide the internal computer subsystems and electronics to communicate and interact with one another. Most are contained to two to four chips.
The competitors for the Intel GMA 950 graphics chipset are Nvidia and ATi Integrated onboard graphics chips and the Intel HD 4000 and X4500. Desktop cards do not compete with integrated.
North Bridge and South Bridge
These chips are called a "Chipset", A chipset is usually designed to work with a specific family of microprocessors. Because it controls communications between the processor and external devices, the chipset plays a crucial role in determining system performance
Intel chips are mainly designed to act as computer processors. Intel chips are some of the most common processor chips that are available on the market.
Wikipedia Article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chipset The term chipset literally refers to a set of computer chips, designed to work together. In modern terms it is the combination of the northbridge and southbridge chips, and i believe a couple other auxiliary control chips.
Internally they aren't too different. On the outside, both are proprietary versions of Unix from different vendors. Solaris is from Sun Microsystems and runs primarily on their CPU chipset the SPARC processor, although recent versions of Solaris will run on Intel or AMD chips as well. HP-UX is from HP, and runs on their chipset of the PA-RISC processor or the Itanium. Recently it was ported to Intel chips as well. From a user's perspective, and even a developer's perspective they are very similar.
