Surveys have shown that the average age kids get cell phones is 10 years old. It has also been reported that 25% of kids under the age of six have phones.

∙ 8y agoI think you should get your child a cell phone whenever you think they are mature enough to have that responsibility and can do chores to help pay for the phone service for their phone. So that your teaching them to have more responsibility while letting them hang lose! I wouldn't suggest a nice phone for the first phone though, I'd get a pre-paid phone first and see how they take care of that phone and use it before you actually get them a nice phone that has a higher risk of them breaking.

∙ 15y agoWhen a child can sign a binding contract with a provider without an adult co-signer and pay for the service. The contract must be such that the parent is held harmless from any costs. This would eb somewhat arounf the age of 18 or older.

∙ 11y agoThe best age to get your child a phone is maybe 7th or 8th grade. You want them to be responsible which means limiting them to texting and calling. You may want to start them off with the basic "emergency calling" only. Then when you feel that they are mature or responsible enough give them the other privileges.

It should depend on how responsible your child is. Usually, when the child gets older, they learn to be more responsible. So you should get your child a phone when they’re 12 and above. And you don’t need to get them the latest iPhones, just get them any phone that is not too expensive, as long as they can call their parents and emrgency sevrices :D
