You must apply online at the PTCB website. Then, once you have applied, you can set up an appointment to take the exam.

You would have to undergo a test, most likely administered by the PTCB (the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board). The standard exam is a 90-question 110-minute long encounter and the fee is $129.
In the district I live in (Tampa East) they start techs at $10/hour. You get a dollar raise when you pass the PTCB exam. Walgreens provides study material and classes and pays for the exam. I'm assuming if you're already certified you start at $11/hour.

Currently as of March 2014, the PTCB or Pharmacy Technician Certification Board, does not require background checks. However, any criminal records you may have when applying must be fully disclosed.

Candidates who fail the PTCE can retake the examination three times. After three retakes, candidates will need to appeal to PTCB and requests will be reviewed and approved on a case-by-case basis. For the first two retakes, candidates are required to wait 60 days before taking the examination again. For the third retake, candidates are required to wait 6 months before taking the examination again.
