The Trojan war took place around 1180 B.C. and it was not between two city states, but between two alliances: the greek city states of Mycyne, Sparta, Argos, Ithaka, Pylos, Mermidon and others versus Troy and their allies (Thracians, Amazons, Masagetai, and so on).
Mythology states that the reason for the war was the abduction of Helen (of Troy), Queen of Sparta and wife to Menelaos by a Trojan prince named Paris. Menelaos asked his brothers' help, Agamemnon (King of Mycynes) to punish the Trojans. Agamemnon called all the greek kings to his side: Achilles of Myrmidon, Odysseus/Ulysees of Ithaka, Ajax of Telamon and others. On the other side Paris had his brother Hektor, Aineias, and others.
The war lasted 10 years. The ancient Greek poet Homer told the history of the Trojan War in a 10.000 verse poem, called the Illiad.
Greek & Roman armies :D

The gods split into two sides Greeks and Trojans. Athena was on the Greek side and came up with a plan to hide some Greek soldiers into a wooden horse. they gave the horse to the Trojans and the Greek soldiers inside waited until all the Trojan soldiers fell asleep and attacked. then the Greeks won because of Athena's smart plan.Odysseus also was with the Trojan horse because Athena helped him come up with the idea so they both get credit on the idea.
Agamemnon - king of Thebes - was commander in chief of the Greek forces. Troy's commander in chief was King Priam, but the army was under the control of his son Hector. What precisely happened to the Trojan command structure after Hector was killed by Achilles is not entirely clear from the stories we have, but Aeneas was in command of the city defenses, and probably took an even more senior role after the death of his commander.

Homer's poems were based on the deeds of warriors from ancient Greek civilization. Specifically, the Iliad focuses on the Trojan War, while the Odyssey follows the adventures of Odysseus as he tries to return home after the war.

Yes, many. The Greeks fought wars constantly with each other and with outsiders. The Trojan War happened so long ago that it is difficult to glean truth from myth, but the two Persian Wars are fairly well documented, and there is a very good account of the Peloponnesian War between Athens and Sparta. The dreaded Philistines of the Old Testament (Judges and Kings I) may have been expatriate Greeks. The Greeks continued to fight many wars with the Persians whom they finally subdued, and later with the Romans who finally subdued them.
