The saying is "A rich man is less likely to enter the kingdom of heaven than a camel is likely to pass through the eye of a needle"
Rumours were spread around by the upper classes that there was an archway somewhere in the desert, or at the entrance to a town, where camels weren't normally allowed.
However, the saying should be taken at face value.
