If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, "Go in peace, be warmed and filled," without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? -James 2:15-16 For there will never cease to be poor in the land. Therefore I command you, 'You shall open wide your hand to your brother, to the needy and to the poor, in your land.' -Deuteronomy 15:11 Whoever closes his ear to the cry of the poor

2 Corinthians 9: 6 Let each one [give] as he has made up his own mind and purposed in his heart, not reluctantly or sorrowfully or under compulsion, for God loves (He takes pleasure in, prizes above other things, and is unwilling to abandon or to do without) a cheerful (joyous, "prompt to do it") giver [whose heart is in his giving]. 2 Corinthians 9: 7 If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking in daily food, and one of you says to them, "Go in peace, be warmed and filled," without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is that? -James 2:15-16 For there will never cease to be poor in the land. Philippians 4: 19 Bring all the tithes (the whole tenth of your income) into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house, and prove Me now by it, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. Malachi 3: 10 In everything I have pointed out to you [by example] that, by working diligently in this manner, we ought to assist the weak, being mindful of the words of the Lord Jesus, how He Himself said, It is more blessed (makes one happier and more to be envied) to give than to receive. Charity in other words is Love, Corinthians 13 says that no matter where a person has reached in God .... you are nothing if you don't have the love of GOD...

1...it doesn't keep records of people who has wronged you

2...it doesn't behave itself anyhow,c

3...it thinketh no evil....

4...it cannot be easily provoked....

this Thing Called Love is God and It never fails and never shall....

We can be the most great preacher, preaching up a storm and doing so much in the name of JESUS but if u don't have the love of God u are not of GOD...

A year ago you were the first ones to give, and you gave because you wanted to. So listen to my advice. I think you should finish what you started. If you give according to what you have, you will prove that you are as eager to give as you were to think about giving. It doesn't matter how much you have. What matters is how much you are willing to give from what you have. 2 Corinthians 8:10-12 CEV

Some appropriate passages:

Luke 6:38 - "Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you."

Luke 21:1-4 - And He looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the treasury, and He saw also a certain poor widow putting in two mites. So He said, "Truly I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all; for all these out of their abundance have put in offerings for God, but she out of her poverty put in all the livelihood that she had."

2 Corinthians 9:6, 7 - But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.

In a global sense, The Bible tells us of God's love for His creation - His way is the way of giving while the god of this world and many humans is the way of getting.

The biblical term for giving (donation or gift to the religious class) is called 'tithe' or 10% of income and this is defined in the OT Scripture (Leviticus 27:30; Numbers 18:26 to mention a couple). The NT Scripture modifies it to giving what one can afford (1 Corinthians 16:1-2; 2 Corinthians 9:7). Here is one Scripture telling us how to know what to give in matters:

James 1:5New King James Version (NKJV)

5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.
