Phidippus audax
I live in Golden Valley and I too found a black spider. It has the shape of a common house funnel type spider or even a grass spider. To me it looks really skinny. I just cannot get over black (charcoal) color it is all over.
I just caught a spider that matches this description. After looking online, I think it may be a jumping spider from the family Salticidae. I believe that spider is Phidippus Audax a.k.a the Bold Jumping Spider.
It's most likely the common "Daring jumping spider," Phidippus audax. It's completely harmless.
It could be a black widow spider if it is small and thin-legged with a shiny round black abdomen and red markings under it. If it's fuzzy with a red spot on it's back, and the front part of the body is more-or-less the same size as back part, then it's a black jumping spider.
It's probably a black widow and yes very poisonous.
