Bombardment was a crucial way of attacking the enemy, bombardment was used to destroy anything in the way of firees, for example barbed wire was a massive killer in the war, this was because it was built up to high and there weren't any gaps for soldiers to pass through so they tried to jump over but it was to late, as they'd either died through falling into it, or being shot. Also bombardment was supposed to try and kill the enemy, unfortunately in the battle of the somme this didn't occur, Britain dropped many bombs intending to kill the Germans but they hid in the, stone bunkers and survived. Bombardment made everything miserable, they made numerous craters, and this saved many bullets fired from soldiers.
