breakup with him for good! If one person frequently threatens to leave or break-up with the other in a relationship they are attempting to control the other person. By threatening to leave he trys to get you behave the way he wants you to. He may not be aware of it. It may be the way his parents interact or he may be imitating fictional characters on television. Either way he is being unfair. In a relationship where both people are equal, one person does not and should not control the other. The most functional relationships are partnerships where both individuals cooperate to not only reach a mutual goal but to help each other grow and contribute to the relationship in a meaningul way. Your boyfriend may or may not being doing it intentionally - either way it is unfair to you and you should not tolerate it for long. If he wants to be in a relationship he has to be willing to be part of it - not the boss of it.
There are many people who are together because one person controls the other and they either prefer it that way or don't recognize that they are playing a role. There are many different examples, but they would not be considered highly functional relatioships.

∙ 16y agoMy guess is that he doesn't like conflict. If he keeps saying he is going to break up with you I think you should break up with him because he doesn't reslove the conflicts you have.
