In Athens, boys were taught to read, write, do arthemetic, learn to play Musical Instruments, play sports, and play the instrument called a Lyre. At age 18 Athenian boys finished school and became citizens.

At age 7 boys topically got sent to be in battle.

I dont know what boys were but women had no rights in Athens and in Sparta they did.
Boys worked in the fields or trades or shops with their fathers. Girls worked in the home and vegetable garden with their mother.

Not many ancient Athenians "hated" Athens. In fact rarely anybody hated Athens. If you lived in Athens, Greece and you were a boys you were trained in 4 subjects. You lived the life of happiness and glory. If you were Spartan though you likely envied the Athenians for they were forced into the army at the age of 7. WOW! Hope this helps! :)
