Researchers define a "population" which consists of elements with defined characteristics. Example: All the matriculating students at Providence College. If the researcher studies the entire population as defined above, it is called a "census". If, on the other hand, the researcher takes a subset of the population, a sample, and studies it it will be a sample survey (or study in more general terms.)
A sample is a portion and a census measures absolutely everyone in the whole country. A representative sample measures a small number of people who fit a particular category of people: surveying 200 white male smokers between 20 and 40 who have had surgery for throat cancer (out of a total number of say 35,000 men who fit that profile).
In a census observations are recorded for each member of the population. In a survey only some of them are.
A census is a statistical enumeration and analysis of a certain population, be it humans, animals or plants - groups that grow and change over time. A survey can be a tally of opinions or answers. See "Family Feud" when Richard Dawson says, "Survey says...!!!!"
The census, in many places, counts the population every 10 years.
It increased.
census
Census's are CHECKING the Population of the Country at the time. Population is how much people there are.
Survey is a type of statistical method of collecting data. This is very important in the field of psychology. Sampling, census etc. are some other methods of collecting data.
A census would get data from 100% of the population (or at least close to 100%). Sampling would be to get data from some of the population (much less than 100%).
The Federal government take its official census every ten years.
Surveys are quick and census is more accurate.

population is amount of people. census is the record of a certain statistic, and the information is from the population. Example: the United States census shows that dogs are the most popular pet in California.
The estimated population as of July 1, 2015 was 585,501 in Wyoming and 39,250,017 in California per the U.S. Census Bureau. Wyoming is the least populated U.S. state. California is the most populated U.S. state.
