The British had multiple criticisms of the colonies in 1763. They thought the colonial militia had been poorly trained. The colonies did not pay the war costs and General Washington did no obey orders to attach a French fort.

They weren't! The main unifying event was actually several events from 1763 to 1775- several Acts by King George III collectively called the Coercive Acts and those combined with the Quebec Act called the Intolerable Acts that led to the uniting of the colonies against Britain.
Following the Seven Years War with the French the British had a large debt, which they believed the colonies should hold the large of the burden due to the war being in the colonies and as such increased the taxes, additionally the Proclamation of 1763 prevented settlers from settling Indian land which they thought they should be able to especially after the war, additionally the British left a small standing army of about 10,000 on the colonial border which the colonist disliked.

In 1763, the British enacted many laws and acts in an attempt to maintain control of the colonies. Rhode Island had the most difficult time of any of the colonies because it was used to self-rule.
