most likely a belt is slipping on a pulley ie. pulley not turning freely belt loose or dirty or worn out to the maximum i have a similar smell coming from my car, mine is coming from a leaking rocker head? i think that's what it was called. hope that helps

The first and easiest answer that comes to mind is that there is a problem with the cabin air circulating fan. BUT - - there is not really enuf specific information. Are you sure it is a burning RUBBER smell, or a burning PLASTIC smell, or a burning ELECTRICAL smell? All could point to different problems.
