at start of computer strike F2 and for setup. Now you should tick the IDE CD ROM or IDE DVD ROM drive because it is sometime disabled by the computer and now enjoy your CD's and if this does not work ,may be your CD-ROM is not high enough to run that CD(e.g. 8x CD ROM)

Nope... the data on a DVD-ROM is packed much tighter. A CD-ROM cannot read DVD's but a DVD-ROM can read CD's

A CD ROM is a standard compact disc containing data to be read by a digital device, such as a CD player or PC CD-ROM drive. A CD-R is a compact disc which data can be recorded, or burned (hence the term "burning cds). Usually, CD-R's are one shot deals meaning they can recorded until they are either filled up (usually 700 MB) or finalized. CD-R's whether filled up or not cant be read by a digital device until finalized.
DVD discs have much more capacity - 4.7 Gigabytes compared to a CD's 700 Megabytes. This means that each DVD can hold almost 7 CDs worth of stuff.
go to cmos and set cdrom to be first bootable disk. then click to start windows with cdrom support. ensure your cdrom is working ok. also ensure that your xp disk has autorun installed (some do not). Good Luck!!!!!!!!!!!
CDROM drives do not get infected with virus. May be there is a driver problem. You can first run one of the free anti-virus like AVG and enable your CD ROM drive if you want to reinstall OS from a CD/DVD. - Neeraj Sharma
on my laptop cd`s got very hot.not very hot on my pc.wouldnt worry too much if it works ok.hope that helps.
Normally you put the original installation CD in the CDrom drive and re-install the program.
