If your printer has Windows Vista drivers available, they should also work in Windows 7. If your printer is less than 4 years old, it may have drivers available to download off of the manufacturer's website.
Lexmark provides un-installation software from windows uninstaller. The drivers and printer can be removed by right clicking the printer in "Devices and Printers". FInd both these by searching at the start-menu or control panel.

I am sharing a Dell Photo AIO Printer 926 running on an XP computer with a computer on the network running Windows 7. When I started, the printer was already installed and working on the XP computer and set up to be shared on the network. Then I ran the 926 printer installation disk (the disk that came with the printer) on the Windows 7 computer. At some point it asked me if the printer was connected to another computer on the network. When I answered "yes" it asked for the name of the other computer on the network and the shared name of the printer. After I answered those questions it proceeded to "install" the printer as if it was connected to the Windows 7 machine and it works perfectly. I was surprised that worked, after having tried many times (unsuccessfully) to connect to it by installing new drivers on the Windows 7 computer. So I would suggest using the printer installation disk on the Windows 7 computer. If you do not have the disk I would suggest trying to get one from the printer manufacturer.
Make sure that the previous installation found in the "printer and faxes" settings are completely removed. Start from scratch, install the printer first with the power turned on, let Windows detect the hardware first (assuming your using windows), if it was detected, make sure you have the installation CD handy.
If you have the installation CD that came with the printer, it would be best to insert it in your computer first before doing anything else on the printer. The software will give you detailed instructions on how to setup the printer itself. If you don't have the installation CD, there are drivers available for download in the Lexmark website.
Go to Printers and Faxes in your Control Panel, and choose "Add a Printer." During the process, it will ask for an installation disk. When you tell it you don't have one, it should offer to look for the driver online. Choose that option, and follow the directions to choose a driver for your printer.
There is no specific printer that you "need" for Windows 98. Any printer with a Windows 98 driver should work.

The process of printed label production first requires a printer. With the purchase of a printer, a free installation disc with drivers will be included. Alternatively, the official printer websites often have freeware for the product available.
Currently the printer is set up as shared. Its a lot of steps to explain but type in the word "shared" or "shared printer" into the Windows help file and it will explain how to take it off shared. If the printer is hooked up to your computer then you will be able to use it, but everyone else will no longer be able to print from it.l
