Can Christian's work on the sabbath if so what work are they allowed to do?

Jesus was criticized for healing a man on the Sabbath. The Sabbath was meant for rest, but sometimes practical needs must be met. The point of Christianity is not to nitpick over religious regulations but to have faith and use discernment.
Imagine telling a parent of very young children not to change diapers on the Sabbath!

In the Bible Old Testament, it was the law that the seventh day' should be kept holy and that it should be a day of rest. The word 'Sabbath' means 'seventh'. The Jews chose this seventh day as commanded by God because according to their beliefs, God made the world in 6 days and on the seventh he rested - making that day holy. If someone is injured, treating that injury to the point that there is no risk of death takes priority. The threat to life can be remote, so dealing with a debilitating injury that might shorten someone's life it it is not immediately addressed suffices to suspend the Sabbath.
