I beg to differ. Dr. Hallowell, author of Driven to Distraction, is forthcoming about his own struggles with ADHD. A well respected clinician out of Ohio, Tiffany DeSilva, MSW, has a very successful social work practice and she speaks publicly about her ADHD.
I am a social worker who has severe ADHD. The secret to my success has been finding the right combination of meds and making sure I'm processing with a therapist of my own.
There are times when ADHD can be an asset in this field. Speaking from personal experience, I find that my ADHD helps me to connect with some of my clients better than a neurotypical person would. I also find that my ability to hyperfocus serves me very well during individual and group sessions.
This job is never boring, which also plays to ADHD strengths. Every client is a new puzzle. Just when you think you've got a client pegged or know what to expect, something will come up that is completely unexpected.
The paperwork can be a challenge, and in my agency, if I don't hand in my paperwork, I don't get paid. Spreadsheets, alarms, and scheduling apps help me stay on track of that stuff as well as I can.
So yes. You can totally be an ADHD social worker, so long as you do whatever work you need to do to keep your own stuff in check.
No, the only way you may call yourself a social worker is if you are licensed by your state either as a Licsensed Social Worker, Clinical Social Worker, or Licensed Clinical Social Worker. If you choose to work in the social service field, your agency will probably provide you with the title of caseworker, counselor, social service worker. The term "Social Worker" is a legal definition, no different than "Attorney" or "Medical Doctor."
A process recording for a social worker might include detailed notes of a conversation with a client, focusing on the client's emotions, behaviors, and responses. The recording should capture the social worker's observations, interventions, and reflections on the interaction to identify areas of growth or improvement in their practice. This document can be used for supervision, training, or evaluation purposes.
Yes, a background in sociology and psychology can be very beneficial for a social worker as these disciplines provide valuable insights into human behavior, societal structures, and how to effectively work with individuals and communities. However, it is not always required as many social work programs provide the necessary courses to develop these skills.
You could deduce that there may be a genetic predisposition for ADHD, as it is present in Jane's family but not in Bill's family. However, it is also possible for ADHD to occur without a family history. Genetic and environmental factors can both play a role in the development of ADHD.
Children may have difficulties in social skills interaction due to factors such as autism spectrum disorders, ADHD, anxiety, or difficulties in understanding social cues and norms. It can also be attributed to a lack of social experience or opportunities for social interaction, leading to challenges in building and maintaining relationships with others. It is important to provide support, guidance, and interventions to help these children develop their social skills.

To become a school social worker you must posses the following, patience, hard working, good rapport towards the people around you. If you really like to become one then you may apply as a volunteer.
Case workers can't do psycho therapy where as social workers can. To be a case worker, all you need is a bachelor's degree. To become a social worker you need a master's degree. In order to become a licensed social worker, you need to have your master degree. Case workers typically only do advocacy and help clients find resources.
