Some will reset if batt disconnected 15 mins-but not all cars. And the repair has to be done prior or it will come back on. Something you might try.

It may be a leak in the tube that connects the MAF to the throttle body. If the check engine light is not illuminated, it will make the job of finding the problem a lot more difficult. it could have a pluged fuel filter or a pluged air filter or a pluged catilitic converter. Maybe a bad fuel pump
Restrict air flow, and inhibit performance. If it is plugged bad enough the engine will not start. A restricted muffler will cause an engine to loose power and run poorly, with bad fuel mileage.
