You should not use hand dishwashing detergent in your dishwasher. The suds created by the soap will spill out onto the floor and is very difficult to clean up.

There is a plastic hat form that you can buy for the regular brimmed hat. You place the hat in that and then on the top shelf of your dishwasher. Use regular dishwasher soap--not laundry soap. It should keep its shape and color.

well, i think regular people because most of them go to Antarctica and i see on the commercials that they clean them with dawn dishwashing soap. No infact they clean ducks with dawndishwashing soap.
From first hand experience, foaming hand soap will work in a non-foaming dispenser. Although the soap will come out as regular soap, not foam. The foaming soap will work as regular soap, just not foaming soap.
Laundry Soap and Dishwasher soap are often distributed in powders. For example, Tide Laundry Soap. The two aren't interchangeable though. Dishwasher soap has to be low-sudsing. There are also powdered hand cleaners, and powdered kitchen scrubbing soaps like Zud powder or Comet Powder
