Mac applications can only sometimes be used on PCs, as they are two different operating systems that make things exclusive and it's hard to do on both systems.

As a teacher with 30 years of experience, I can say that the iPad is the easiest computer for kids to use that I have ever tried. Bi, Before iPad, it depended more on what I wanted them to do, and which application I needed to use to do it. Generally the Mac was easier to use, but there were more applications for the PC. There were also more people who used PCs and so it was often necessary to use PCs for school political reasons. It wasn't a matter of 'best' but a matter of what other people were used to. Usually I preferred the Mac. Given the choice today, I would spend the money on iPads.
