Take one of dishes/cups from the set to a jeweler to have the gold tested first. If it is not real gold it would be a shame to ruin them.
If it is real gold you can gently scrape off the gold which will be mostly dust. Be sure to work on a piece of paper (I used white freezer paper so I could see the dust). Frequently and gently pick the paper up and put the dust in a glass jar. Be sure the jar is dry and has an air tight twist lid, like a baby food jar. It is imperative that there be NO DRAFTS when scraping the gold....that includes people walking around as the movement causes air to shift. The dust is very fine and you would be surprised at how much gold dust you can lose that way.
Be sure to breath gently so as not to cause the gold dust to blow around and wear safety glasses. Good luck! You could be sitting on a lot of cash.
