Pain and the disease can lead to loss of joint function, leading to inactivity, further increasing the risk of osteoporosis. it is also theorised that bone loss in R A may be a direct result of the disease. This loss is most pronounced in the areas surrounding the affected joints.
Women, a group already at increased osteoporosis risk, are two to three times more likely than men to suffer from rheumatoid arthritis as well.
