Do North Korean defectors have a choice about staying or leaving South Korea?
Most North Korean Defectors do not ever go to South Korea. They either stay in China or come to the United States. North Koreans often feel alienated or discriminated against in South Korea because of their accent or mannerism, so they prefer to live in other places where their distinctiveness as North Koreans is less obvious.For those North Koreans who do defect, regardless of what country they defect to, returning to North Korea will be punished by death. South Korea also makes going to North Korea a criminal offense, meaning that, if for some reason North Korea waives punishment for returning, a re-return to South Korea will land that person in Jail. However, North Korean defectors to South Korea become immediate South Korean citizens and can visit any country with which South Korea has relations (just like any native-born South Korean). For example, they could work in Europe, the US, Canada, etc. provided that they get the proper visas required by those countries.

Yes, and No. South, and North Korea always tries to be in a good relationship. Often, the president of South Korea goes to visit North Korea to have a meeting, and to keep a good relationship with each other. After all, we used to be an one happy country before the war. South Korea sends many supplies to orth Korea to help them out.

in person? NOPE! in person with government on back? YEP! Government sometimes make deals, which is South Korean meeting North Korean, and this is not for tour. It is for family reunion, but ironically, they can't take the Family back to one country. Another case is for tourism. There is a biggest mountain in Korea, called 백두산, baek-doo-san, or baek-doo mountain, and it is famous because there is a science theory that say if baek-doo mountain explodes again,(it is volcanic) it can threat the world. In fact, in 11th century, it corrupted once, and the pieces of rocks fell in japan, china, and russia. anyway, to go there, South Koreans must enter the China first, as the mountain is located in border of China and North Korea, and they can enter the mountain journey.
