Only the fully automatic firearms that were already registered with the BATFE by May 1986 can be transferred to a private citizen. Which is why the price of a LEGAL, papered M16 that can be transferred is about $26,000. Since the supply is finite, prices have risen sharply.
As a private citizen, no. Machine gun dealers, law enforcement agencies, and military agencies, yes.
Possible, but, not likely
A semi-automatic or fully automatic rifle.
It is legal for a private citizen to own a fully automatic rifle in MOST US states IF you comply with Federal law (National Firearms Act- requires registration of full autos with the BATFE). Rather than list all the states that DO, why not post the state or states you are asking about?
Idaho does not prohibit possession of either a semi-automatic rifle, nor a fully automatic rifle (machine gun) Fully automatic firearms are regulated under Federal law in ALL states. Possession of a fully automatic firearm is legal in Idaho so long as the gun has been registered with the Federal BATFE.
Yes
As a private citizen in the US- you can't. The TAVOR was introduced AFTER the ban on registration of new fully automatic weapons in the US (May 1986).
Depends on what you mean by automatic guns, and the law where you live. You did not tell us where that is, so there is no way we can answer. Where I live you CAN legally own fully automatic firearms (machine guns) but they are horribly expensive. An M16 rifle that may be owned by a private citizen is between $12,000 and $16,000.
A LEGAL, REGISTERED machinegun that can be transferred to a private citizen in the US is VERY expensive. An M16 fully automatic rifle is about $16,000. A belt fed M60 machinegun is about $65,000.
would you believe in 1887- in Mexico? Patented by Gen. Mondragon, the rifle was in caliber 7mm Mauser, and capable of semi or fully automatic fire.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mondrag%C3%B3n_rifle
It is potentially possible, but highly unlikely that you would be approved for an NFA tax stamp in the state of Illinois, especially if you're in Cook County.
Anyone that owns a legal AK47 will know how to gain information on their rifle, since they are worth about $14,000 each. People that do not know are generally asking how to create a fully automatic rifle, which is a serious crime in the US, with a penalty of 10 years in prison.
"BAR or the Browning Automatic Rifle and the person who invented it was Joshua Peterson in 1903" Not even close to a correct answer, the first true fully automatic weapon was the Maxim Machine Gun, in 1884. BAR doesn't even receive first automatic rifle, which would be the mexican Mondragon, patented in 1887.
