A very common date "Wheat Cent" most are 3 to 10 cents.
MY best guess would have to be a 1943 copper penny. But a little more specific question would be helpful. Small cent or large cent??
The first US one cent coin was the 1793 Flowing Hair large cent.
An 1828 penny can be worth up to about $40.00. It is the large cent penny, so it is quite rare today.
