That is why so called "silencers" sound nothing like they do in the movies. They are not that "silent" at all because you cannot get rid of the sonic boom. However, some ammo is subsonic, meaning it is designed to go slower than the speed of sound. Subsonic ammo/rounds do not make the distinctive "whipcrack" sound as far as I know.
