every state in America know preforms a small blood test to detect sickle cell it wont cost you much,
one test is preformed to see if you have sickle cell if the hospital thinks you do they will call you in for another test to confirm dignoses.
but don't freak out sickle cell is a rare but serious disease.
hope this helped ^_^
In a blood smear cells are spread out in one thin layer so they can be easily identified through a microscope. Normal red blood cells look round, whereas sickle cells are spindle or crescent shaped.
a CBC is going to detect the amounts of different cells in the body, its a Complete Blood Count- this included white, red, platelets and so forth. It can tell if the cells are big or the cells are small as well, but the best test for sickle cell is a blood smear. This test is merely taking the blood, smearing it on a slide and taking a look with a microscope. This will show possible sickling of the cells and most other morphological variations of RBCs that come from other diseases.
It is diagnosed through a blood test (a CBC, or complete blood count), which shows the levels of red blood cells in the blood.
Sickle cell is diagnosed by a simple blood test called hemoglobin electrophoresis. This analyzes the blood and points out abnormal cells.
You ask them.

No a karyotype would not reveal the presence of sickle cell because karyotypes are pictures of all of your chromosomes, so it could show the presence of Down syndrome, but not sickle cell disease.
From my own opinion:I believe that a Karotype would NOT reveal the presence of sickle-cell disease because a karotype only shows pictures of all the chromosomes in a cell..But sickle-cell disease causes red blood cells to become sickle-shaped. So, basically, it involves red blood cells, not chromosomes.

It can reveal the sex (gender) of an organism. It can also reveal whether the organism has the correct number of chromosomes or not.
Yes. A karyotype will show the chromosomes and an affected person will have XXY instead of XY for a normal male.
A karyotype is basically a chart of the number and structure of chromosomes. They can reveal ploidy differences (missing or additional chromosomes such as trisomy 21) or chromosomal mutations (like inversions, deletions, translocations etc)
