Can a Catholic receive Holy Communion if he is divorced and dating?

As long as the person is not remarried he/she can receive Holy Communion. The Catholic Church does not recognize divorce. As far as the Church is concerned, he/she is only separated. However, if this 'dating' relationship is sexual, he/she would be considered to be an adulterer and not able to receive Holy Communion without confession.

The Catholic Church does not recognize any form of divorce so would consider the couple to be merely separated. Unless they obtain a decree of annulment from the Church they could not remarry. If any one or both of the couple were to remarry without an annulment they would be considered to be living in serious sin called adultery. As Jesus himself said, "If any man divorces his wife and marries another he commits adultery with her." He said the same of a woman who divorces. If a person involved in such a 'separation' and does not remarry, he/she is free to receive communion provided they are not guilty of any other serious sin.

Basically, the same would apply to any individual who is involved sexually with another who is not his/her spouse. Dating is fine as long as it does not go beyond that.
