Catholic AnswerTechnically, the Orthodox religion is in schism with the Catholic Church, so, although this would not be apostasy (which is giving up the Christian faith altogether), it will still be giving up the fullness of the Christian faith in union with the Pope. However, there is no need to do this, when the Orthodox left the Church, each Rite broke in two, thus there is a Uniate Rite for each Orthodox Church. Thus the Greek Uniate Church is still in communion with Rome, and a person may obtain permission to change their Rite or they may just attend Mass at another Rite.

No, both must be Catholic to be married in a Catholic church (or the non-Catholic must sign papers promising to raise all children as Catholics, etc before the wedding is allowed). The Orthodox Church will marry a Catholic and an Orthodox in the Orthodox church, however.

ANSWER: YES, of course a catholic may marry an orthodox in a Catholic Church just like a catholic may marry a protestant in a catholic church. There would need to be a solemn promise to raise the children, if any, Catholic. However, The orthodox spouse (or protestant spouse) would not have to convert to the Catholic faith.

Can a divorced greek orthodox woman marry a catholic man in a catholic church if her first marriage was annulled by the greek church?

The answers is no, if he wasn't divorced, yes, because the catholic church recognises the orthodox church as valid since they were one church before. However if he is divorced he is not allowed in either catholic or orthodox. A Catholic can marry any non- Catholic, and it is recognized as a sacrament in the Catholic church. Only when the individual has been previously married there is an issue. In which case that individual must have their previous marriage annuled. The Catholic church permits Catholics to marry in the Orthodox church and it is a sacrament. I have spoken to Catholic priests and Catholic Bishops and they do not see a problem with a Greek annulment, as being an impediment. If that individual did not have their marriage previously annulled than it would be an issue.

I was baptized a Roman Catholic but confirmed Orthodox and I married a Greek Orthodox can I have my nephew baptized in a Catholic Church?

Since you are confirmed Orthodox and married a Greek Orthodox, the Orthodox Church requires that any children you may have should be baptized Orthodox. Also, as an Orthodox, you are not allowed to baptize your nephew or any other person in a catholic church. From the Catholic point of view, unless your nephew is to be reared a Catholic, he may not be baptized in the Catholic Church. If he is to be reared Catholic, either by his parents or godparents, the Church will receive him. No you are GREEK orthodox u must not I reapeat not baptisma your child at a catholic church.

Can macedonian orthodox marry in greek orthodox?

Macedonian orthodox like Athenian orthodox and Thessalian, Epirotian, Thracian orthodox can all marry in the Greek Orthodox Church no matter where in Greece they hail from. The foreign church of the Former Yugoslav Republic is a schismatic church and not recognized by the ecumenical patriarchy of Constantinople as an orthodox church. Therefore no Greek, whether Macedonian, Athenian, Thessalian etc can marry in the church of the former Yugoslav Republic but the various ethnicities of the Former Yugoslav Republic who follow their Christian church can marry in a Greek Orthodox Church.
