Why not? Mathematicians have done the nightclub comedy circuit, so why couldn't astronomers be in a spectacle?

Oh, you mean can astronomers WEAR spectacles? Of course. People rarely sit at their telescopes with their eyes pressed to the eyepiece anymore. It's all done with computers, and CCD devices that are far more sensitive than the human eye, and which record everything. There's more need for computer programmers than actual astronomers in observatories these days.
