Average prices for a cruise to the Caribbean is approximately between $100 and $300 a day. This also depends on the port of departure as well as how many days at sea one will be.
A port day on a cruise ship is just a day when the ship is tied up alongside hence she is in port.
In air travel/packages the day you depart is counted as the first day and the day you return is the last day. I imagine that cruises would be the same. eg Departure day Friday - is the first day, Day 1 - even if departure is at 10pm at night. If the return arrival home is the next Saturday, even being early in the morning, that is counted as a day - therefore that trip would be an 8 nights/9 days package - which includes the day of departure and the day of return.
Dependent on the length of your stay and departure point cruise fares will vary. That being said, you can find some Alaskan cruises for as little as $70 per night.
I am a Caymanian and i live here in Cayman and go to school here. Cruise Ships do not come EVERY day. But most of the time they do. Its pretty rare when you drive into town and see the waterfront empty. The most Ive seen of Cruise Ships a day is Seven.
Check with your carrier. In most cases, you can bring them, but cruise lines are charging upwards of $2 for a can on soda - and they want the revenue. Hint: Don't purchase your soda or water in the port of embarkation. Instead grab them at your first port of call. The ship is far less likely to care on day 2 of the cruise. Happy sailing!
The passport is an absolute must for any cruise traveling to a port outside of the home port's nationality. You won't get onboard without it. In the US, you can get your passport expidited for an extra $60. There are also three cities in the US you can get your passport on the same day you order it. One city is Miami. Check out the US passport website for details at travel.state.gov and look up "How do I get my passport in a hurry?"
