I was told only aafter 7 years. Though this seems unusually long. I heard this through a friend who is married to s adoctor, but she is a phychiatrist so it may only apply to that situation. Here is the American Medical Association policy:
"At a minimum, a physician's ethical duties include terminating the physician-patient relationship before initiating a dating, romantic, or sexual relationship with a patient."
A doctor can indeed date a patient, with no legal bonds to stop him/her. Ethically, there may be problems. For a psychiatrist to date a patient is not considered ethical.
Although at first may seem awkward, a doctor dating a (former) patient is completely normal, and happens all the time.

Yes, because the patient could be an old friend that you have loved before....
I guess so, it's not like doctors are any different.
Morally and thically, probably at least a year or more, but I think that if two people find each other, who's to say where or when. I say that the doctor should write a formal letter discontinuing the patient as a patient, put it in the file and get on with your love.
Yes, as long as you aren't a minor and no longer the therapist's patient.
I don't see any problem with continueing friendship with a former patient others do this all the time.
where they live ... why not What you can't ask for is a date.
Yes but if the patient is a patient of that doctor, the doctor would HAVE to refuse. Doctors, like everyone else, have a rite to a private life and can go out on dates. However, the rules (for the doctor) are that the the relationship between a doctor and that doctor's patient must be professional, because doctors are in a position to take advantage of their patients (who may be feeling vulnerable).
of course they can. doctors are people. they can be attracted to whoever they want. can they date this person? probably, as long as they're not his current patient.
The standard form for doctor's orders typically includes the patient's name, date of birth, the date the orders were written, the specific instructions for treatment or medication, the doctor's signature, and any relevant diagnoses or medical conditions.
You didn't mention if your doctor loved you as well. It is against the law for a doctor to have a love interest in his patient. If you both have a relationship going then I suggest you find another doctor if you wish to pursue this man.
When someone asks you if you are the doctor or the patient, it usually means that you are the patient but you are trying to diagnosis your symptoms as if you were the doctor.
i am sure it can't not if the doctor didn't see the patient
