The dog is equipped with a shock collar which can be triggered by the owner to give the dog a reminder that what she's doing is wrong. The trigger sends a radio signal to the collar which causes it to emit a small electric shock that feels unpleasant for the dog.

Is the secret to training a perfect dog system cruel to a dog?

Training your dog shouldn't be a cruel or unpleasant experience. We don't need to shock, hit, pin, or so much as touch our dog in that sort of way. All you need to have set in your mind is "Dog, if you do this something good will happen," not "Dog, if you don't do this something bad will happen."

Can dogs be allergic to yellow jacket stings?

Dogs are susceptible to stings from flying insects just as humans are. A dog that is allergic to a sting can experience anaphylactic shock if not treated quickly. Signs of anaphylactic shock can include swelling around the sting area, vomiting, wheezing or breathing very quickly, pale gums, and the dog will appear very weak. Professionals recommend Benadryl in a very small dose can help your dog until you can get it to the emergency room. Remember your dog can overdose on Benadryl, so do not administer a dose as large as you would take. It would be best to get your dog to a veterinarian as soon as possible if they experience an allergic reaction to an insect sting.

What are dog shock collars used for?

I have a Brittany and indeed the collar does work. While we have a 24 acre spread bording a very nice spring fed creek and lots of field and woods, our dog loves to cross the road in front of our place. She is attracted to kids especially and will forget all training and run towards them almost at any cost. Of course this is very dangerous as we do have traffic on our road. I use a shock collar that is both waterproof and has sound. I trained her to come when I call her without the collar and then she knows the command. I first used a mild shock and a little heavier shock if she chose to ignore me if the temptation was strong. After awhile she learned that when she has the collar on she is to mind and does. I don't have to use the shock anymore as the sound works magic. She does not mind all that well if she does not have the collar on so I did something wrong I am sure?

What are the main risks for dog shock collars?

The main risk from using a dog shock collar, is that the collar itself can result in poorly timed intense electric shocks in the wrong hands and can therefore instill fear and anxiety in the dog.
