I have one dog in my family of five. I have five people in my family and also a dog.
It depends entirely on your dog's personality. If your dog has a laid back attitude and accepts other dogs readily the it should be OK. Be sure the first family dog is the 'big cheese' and give the dog lots of love (don't forget the pecking order ... first family dog rules!) If your dog is elderly (13 years or older) then I personally won't bring another dog into the picture because I fear the dog feels we are replacing it. I'll wait until my dogs time comes. As I say, it depends on your dog's personality. I own two dogs and they get along great (buddies) as well as a cat who thinks she's a dog and all three are great pals.
