Technically, yes. It's called a parasthesia. The Mental foramen, located in the lower jaw runs thru a hole in the jaw just below the second bi-cuspid and first molar. If this is a lower molar, and you have neglected it to this point, it is my opinion that it could affect that nerve root that is in the lower mandible. My advice is to see an Endodontist or Oral Surgeon AT ONCE. Do not ignore this. I was a registered oral surgery/Endodontal/Periodontal assistant (RDA) for 12 years. An infected tooth can turn into gangrene, and cause blindness, even death, IF IGNORED.

Any time the facial nerves are numbed or disturbed can result in numbness that may be transient or permanent. Unless your root canal has gone bad and has residual infection, it is less likely the root canal itself caused the trouble, but more likely the procedure to make you able to have the root canal done is the culprit. Sometimes there is pain with the numbness. This is called anesthesia dolorosa. There are neurologists that specialize in disorders of the cranial nerves. For appropriate diagnosis and treatment of headache disorders, consult a board certified headache specialist.

Can toothache cause bad headaches?

Yes, a tooth infection can cause a headache. Also, be aware that certain sinus conditions can mask as tooth problems. For example, although not common today, it still happens that growths in certain sinus cavities cause pain, drippings, other symptoms that lead doctors and dentists to treat as tooth/gum problems, and too often by the time the real condition is unearthed it is too late to save the patient.

What could cause a headache and facial pain after an upper tooth extraction?

Trigeminal Neuralgia is an often overlooked side effect of dental work. It is fairly rare, but something to be aware of in addition to the answer below: I am not a dentist, but I did have an upper molar removed about two weeks ago. As for facial pain. Several things could contribute to this. If the roots were fused to the jaw bone facial pain can last for quite some time. Pain can also be caused at the injection site where the local anesthetic is administered. I have had pain like this that lasts over a week. The headache could be just a by product of the overall procedure or related to a specific area near the sinuses which are very close to the upper mouth.

Should you smoke when you have a dying tooth?

smoking is not necessarily bad for the insides of teeth but tends to stain the outsides. if the tooth is dying, it is probably best not to smoke, but it will not contribute extensive damage to the tooth or speed up the process. see a dentist.

When does our face swells?

Facial swelling can be caused due to many reasons. One of the top most reason is pain in the gum or tooth. In such cases when the pain is extreme it can cause face sweeling. You can treat it with cold compress or get it treated by expert dentist. @charlestonoralandfacialsurgery

Sinus headache why is your teeth numb?

Many teeth go up into the facial cavity, near the sinuses - in fact the canine tooth sits just under the eye. It's therefore understandable that problems with the sinuses and a sinus headache could 'refer' their pain or even numbness to the teeth. It could even be that the problems with sinus headaches are really coming from toothache - so it may be worth a trip to the dentist!
