The metal shell of an extinguisher is extremely strong. It could conceivably burst if the pressure got high enough. But the "release" (nozzle) ends of almost all extinguishers are designed to fail at pressures much lower than would rupture the metal shell.
Similarly, a shell that was cracked or cut would tend to puncture, releasing the pressure at the point of damage rather than bursting wide open.
The greatest danger would be from an extinguisher whose shell had corroded, weakening it without releasing the contents. There are several cases where rough handling of rusted extinguishers caused injurious or fatal explosions.

First turn off the oven. If the fire is because of grease spewing, then cover it up with a pan to smother it. If it won't go out then fires should be doused with baking soda or a fire extinguisher - but not water on grease or electrical fires.
Our fire extinguisher training sessions take students through the different classes of fire, proper selection of fire extinguishers, how to effectively use a fire extinguisher, and when it is safe to fight a fire so that everyone knows how to best respond in an incident. Then, we'll give participants hands on experience with a live fire simulator that's controlled by the instructor.

Just go to google and search up thomas J Martin Images and his pics will show up.. or click on images on the left side :) youre welcome Also worth noting that Thomas Martin may have invented "A" fire extinguisher, but not "THE" fire extinguisher. Today, his invention would be properly titled as "Method of piping water inside for use in fire suppression." It has nothing to do with a PORTABLE fire extinguisher, which was invented at least 70 years earlier.
