When sick the lion dies because it can't protect itself from a Hyena. the hyena's can't battle with a healthy lion and that is why they prey on the weak animals. He's the top of the food chain. The lion is fast , has huge paws , and teeth to defend it's self.

If you read twilight, Edward uses a metaphor to compare himself to Bella. He calls himself a " sick, masochistic lion", and Bella is the lamb. So, the lamb without a lion means Bella without Edward.

Generally an adult rhino is much more likely to kill a lion than for a lion to kill the rhino, but if it is a very young, unprotected juvenile or sick or already badly injured a pride of lions may kill it. They also would have no problem with scavenging the carcass of a rhino that was already dead.
