What are the effects of spinal stenosis?

Our spinal cord protects the nerves that send messages to the brain. It is made up of a series of connected bones or vertebrae. These vertebrae are stacked on top of each other forming an ā€˜Sā€™ shape with the curve being the most at the neck and in the lower back. Each vertebra has a disc between them which acts as a shock absorber. Unfortunately, though there are situations where the spine can be injured and needs surgery. Sometimes the spinal cord narrows either due to aging, the presence of an underlying spinal condition, or because some people are born with a congenital form. The narrowing of the spinal cord is called Spinal Stenosis. When this happens, the nerves traveling through the spinal canal are pressurized. While there is no cure for Spinal Stenosis, there are several ways to manage the pain, including spine fixation treatments. Ranka Hospital, Pune provides treatment and facilities for spine problems.

What is a congenital condition in which there is failure of the the spinal canal to close around the spinal cord?

As I understand it Congenital Spinal Stenosis is a form of Spinal Stenosis that one is born with rather than an age induced degenerative condition. Spinal Stenosis refers to the constriction of the canal and other structures of the spine that our nervous system runs thru. If the condition is severe it could put pressure on the neural structures of the spine causing pain. Please understand I am not in the medical field but have been researching this and other spinal conditions as my husband has reciently been diagnosed with a number of spinal issues that we wish to understand.

Is 56 yr young to have spinal facet arthropathy?

Hi, No it is not, I am 47 yrs & I have it along with Lumbar spinal stenosis. You can get this due to injury, accidents & wear & tear I believe. My facet joint was damaged due to being assaulted so I can tell you along with the stenosis it is a 24/7 painful suffering & due to being a high risk patient for any surgery let alone for a back Op I have no choice but to put up with it. However I would like to know what I am to look forward to in the future, (the outcome of untreated spinal stenosis / facet Arthropathy) ie how long before I become totally housebound or in a wheelchair but I have been unable to find anything online. If anybody here knows, please feel free to inform me. Thanks
