While there may be some evidence showing that non-Newtonian fluids can be used for body armor, it has not been fully tested or proven.

A recent publication of a popular magazine in July of 2010, did an article on non-newtonian fluids being used in armor applications. One of the U.K.'s top british defense companies, BAE have devolped a secret non-newtonian ballistic fluid that has proved to be more flexible, light, and safe for soldiers. If I'm not mistaken it was in the "Fast Company" magazine. Have a look and hope this answered or at the least led you in the right direction.
