My answer for this question is no, because when you stop instantly, the momentum genrerated by moving the runner forward continues to push you forward, making the runner slide (if on gravel, ice, or wet grass) or flat on their face if the runner is on a surface with a large amount of friction, suchas tarmac or other floor. Unless the runner were to run in to a wall, the runner could not stop instantly
