I am currently a licensed EMT-I in the state of Georgia, and I have just completed a Paramedic program and passed my National Registry. I have a misdemeanor burglary charge from 12 years ago, which is hindering me from being licensed in this state.

As far as my research, petitioning to have a criminal history sealed is the only way to go. But, mind you, the criminal background check policy just changed in January of this year... Who knows, I might have to go work in Alabama or some other 3rd rate state :(

You cannot work as a paramedic anywhere with a felony on your record as far as I know. Some violent misdemeanors will even disqualify you from employment.

Is simple burglary consider felony 1?

Burglary, per se, is considered a felony offense in all jurisdictions. There are some burglary-type offenses that possibly could be charged as misdemeanors, but they fall under an entirely different statute, and they can difffer from state-to-state.
