There are two situations where plants can survive without chlorophyll.

However, on another planet where the most abundant colors on the surface are, say, blue and green, the plants there will use chemicals other than chlorophyll to capture that light, and the red light will get reflected, so the plants will appear red to our eyes. These plants may benefit from chlorophyll, but they wouldn't need it to survive.
