Why do we need to disconnect a computer?
It depends on what situation you are talking about. If you are referring to say lightning storms, you need to disconnect the power cord to prevent the possibility of lightning striking the line and sending a surge into your system. A lightning surge can be lethal to most systems. BTW, the power cord is the most obvious but any connection to the 'outside' is vulnerable. Have your A/C serviced or disconnect your A/C from your car. ...
Why does a Power Strip have cable attachments?
It is a separate component and is used for grounding only. Usually on a TV or electronic power strip for convenience. Most likely the power strip has built-in surge suppression. It is designed to disconnect the load, like your TV, from an over-voltage surge such as could happen during a lightening strike. The in and out cable connectors provide the same type of surge protection from a high voltage that may be induced on the antenna or cable source for the TV...
How do you make Home Insurance Claim for damage to electrical appliances from a power surge?
