Article 2, Section 1, Clause 5 of the US Constitution clearly states that:

"No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty-five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States."

The only way for someone who was not a natural-born US Citizen to be eligible to be President is for them to have been a Citizen at the time of the adoption of the Constitution...It's a little late for that now!

The actual requirement is that they be a natural born citizen. People who are not US citizens from birth, but later become citizens, are not eligible for the office of President.

"Natural born citizen" does not necessarily mean "born in the US". A child born outside the country to parents who are, themselves, US citizens, is also a "natural born citizen". This means that the child of, say, a US citizen who happened to be in the Army and stationed overseas at the time the child was born is not automatically disqualified, and is also a reason it doesn't really matter whether Obama was born in Hawaii or not... his mother was a US citizen, making him a "natural born" citizen regardless of his place of birth.

Naturalised US citizens cannot be elected U.S president due to a rule implimented within the earlier days of the USA and reiterated during the cold war to prevent the unlikely notion of the Russians attempting to infiltrate the White House with a pro-marxist candidate.

As of present they are deciding whether to overturn the rule due to the high numbers of foreign (by birth) congressmen/women and assorted senators which are still US citizens. The most famous example is the terminator they have running California, who everyone keeps insisting that he will run for president sometime even though it is constitutionally impossible (yes I am refering to Arnold).

It's mainly the republicans preventing foreigners from becoming US president, but due to the current mindset of the american far-right voters, it's exceedingly unlikely that we will be seeing somebody like me in the White house within the next 50 years.
