So what happened to the unit. Was it dropped, shocked, made wet? It may just be the speaker but the presence of static points to an electronic issue. Can you plug in headphones; is the sound OK or is the static still there, Connect a Bluetooth speaker; is the sound OK or is the static still there, If headphones and Bluetooth speaker still work, the electronics are working. If not you no longer have a quality music playing device but you still have a computer and gaming unit. There is no telling how long it will stay this way till it gets worse, if it does.
