Yes, if you download dodgy software or music, it will freeze you iPod, cut out half way through a song and eventually shut your iPod down and then you will have to buy a new one. I suggest scanning all music before putting it on your iPod and by having viruses on your iPod, when you connect to your computer it will pass it on.
