Please do not use acetone to soften earwax. There are commercially available solutions that are far less invasive. Acetone should not be placed in the ear canal except in extreme cases, like when a kid pushes something acetone-soluble into their ear that can cannot be removed. In that case it should only be done by a physician. Like most waxes, earwax becomes very pliable and as the temperature increases. So by flushing your ear with a lot of warm water (like quarts) you can usually accomplish the same thing as the over-the-counter remedies.

Acetone will dissolve many epoxy resins and they will go into solution. There are a few available commercially. However, once the epoxy resin (oligomer) is polymerized or cross-linked by an amine for example, acetone will not dissolve it but only soften it.
