Different species have different hearing abilities. Humans have a special ability to differentiate very subtle differences in sounds, which helps us to understand language. However, we can not hear a very wide range of sound frequencies compared to most other mammals, meaning they can hear better than us in some ways. Some animals here very poorly, such as manatees, while others, like the great horned owl or bats, have shockingly acute hearing ability.
