Dear God, I hope not. If a foster family celebrates a special occasion like their anniversary, and they DO NOT get drunk, I would think that's ok. I would even think it's ok to have a glass of wine w/dinner, but it is not ok for a foster parent to get drunk. If there is drug use, and it's not something that's given due to a medical condition, then a foster parent should never do drugs. The foster parent(s) have a duty to set a good example, and to certainly do it while being sober. If you are in a situation with foster parent(s) doing drugs and drinking, you should let your case worker know. If you are asking this question because you want to become a foster parent, please keep in mind that these children are probably coming to you out of a bad situation. For the sake of the children, don't even try to foster a child if you are drinking and/or doing drugs. It is a privilege to have a child in your home, and that child deserves all the love and support he/she can get.
