The answer to your question is yes, but I'm guessing that what you think you know

about hypnosis is or might be different from the actual reality of it.

To start people go in and out of trances all the time. When reading most people get caught

up in the plot an go to an altered state, similarly, when you are watching TV, daydreaming,

long distance driving, this are all examples of of situations where people drift off into

trance. In fact many people believe that a person is in some level of altered state ,all the

time.Even things like deep trance phenomena have waking state analogs. For example,

have you ever played sports, taken a knock and it not hurt at all? Or ever discovered a

bruise on your body and have no memory of where it came from? hypnotic pain control

uses these very same principals. How about hypnotic hallucinations? The classic example

in day to day life is losing your keys, looking everywhere in the house for them, and

discovering that they were in the very first place you looked - impossible to miss, but you

managed it somehow! Time distortion, automatic movement, amnesia etc. all have similar

day to day phenomena as well as their hypnotic equivalences. A hypnotist is someone who

is skilled at creating and taking advantage of these, and many other normal functions of

how your mind works. There are many tricks and techniques that you can learn to do these

things. Some are surprisingly easy to do. Others take a lifetime to develop.
